Immigrant and Emmigrant Ancestors
New archives, indexes and records for those tracing their family tree are continually being discovered, compiled and made available. The Passenger List index 1890-1960, is one of the latest indexes to add interest to a family tree, or indeed, to enable a family historian to discover a vital link for a missing ancestor, their unknown destination, or the eventual fate of a family tree member. I was pleased, for example, to find a record of my own missing relatives who took assisted passages to New Zealand after the war. Fresh out of agricultural college, they took up the Government's offer of a free passage to meet the labour shortage and their tickets and voyage was an instant find on first examining the records.
