Railway Family History
Whilst tracing your ancestry or researching your family tree you may have encountered an ancestor employed by the Railways. The following article found in a bound volume for the year 1894, of Cassell's Family Magazine provides a graphic description of the dangers faced by such employees as engine drivers, firemen, etc., and an insight into their working conditions. The author, one Henry Firth, asks his readers to respect "the men to whom we owe so much" and commends them for their bravery and skill.
